ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some of the additional considerations people may wish to take into account when hunting for sensory resources for Sensory Beings with dementia. Although focused on dementia, it has many examples that are also pertinent to Sensory Beings who do not have dementia. Individuals with dementia benefit enormously from the opportunity to engage with the sensory world. Many of the experiences described in the preceding chapters will be perfect for igniting their interest. The suggestions should help people to build upon that starting point to create resources beautifully suited to their needs and abilities. Novelty of experience can also be important for creating a no-pressure environment for sensory exploration with a person with dementia. Often these experiences are the less natural, more plastic flashing lights and sounds types of experiences, and the newly invented extraordinary gadgets types of experience, although novel items from other cultures and countries would also fit the bill.
