ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the concepts of growth and fixed mindsets. It outlines the key studies undertaken by Carol Dweck and her colleagues which demonstrate the connection between growth mindset and increased progress and attainment, and the transmission of mindsets through praise. For each of these studies, it considers their implications for educational practice in the secondary school environment.
