ABSTRACT

Nurseries, brimming with life and activity, also carry the burden of illness and death too. This chapter presents a case study of Rashid who is nearly four years old and has one of those rare syndromes that one need to look up in the medical dictionary. He is partially sighted, quite deaf, and struggles with his balance and co-ordination. Watching Rashid was always a delight because he took such pleasure in everything he did. The intimate incursion into Rashid's resonating inner world came as a complete surprise. He wasn't a touchy-feely sort of child at all, so his intimacy and physical contact was unexpected. The experience with him brought home to the author, the richness of every child's inner life and the multiple ways of communicating and storytelling with another human being, as well as the power of simple, loving thoughts. The author deeply moved by the invitation to enter his inner world and humbled by it.
