ABSTRACT

Intervention techniques are action-oriented techniques. They invigorate as a catalyst of change, however small that change might be. Any small change can quickly snowball, and thereby improve clients’ affect regulation and transform their lives. Armed with the six groups of active intervention techniques provided in this chapter, even a novice counselor/therapist can learn to implement a small action into the treatment plan, and stoke the sessions to be more alive, more dynamic. Each group contains several specific techniques, all demonstrated with insightful examples and cases to help readers internalize the techniques:

Body-Oriented Directives

Cognitive-Restructuring and Socratic Questioning

Solution-Focused Techniques

Motivational Interviewing

Expressive Arts Techniques

Take-Home Exercises/Homework Assignments
