ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 outlines the new analytical instrument proposed in this corpus-based empirical study of Chinese health translation, i.e. inter-sectoral interaction around the communication and promotion of nutritional health in large-scale global Chinese and Chinese digital industrial resources and news. It opens with the argument that enhanced inter-sectoral interaction, which remains largely underexplored, could significantly enhance current health promotion and communication. In order to test this hypothesis, large-scale monolingual comparable digital corpora are required to identify and explore useful textual and linguistic patterns in the digital industrial news studied. This section introduces the use of original and translated Chinese digital corpora in the study of nutritional health communication among global Chinese societies and the People’s Republic of China.
