ABSTRACT

The Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom is a framework for putting students in charge of their own learning. It holds much promise for increasing student engagement, empowerment, and efficacy leading to stronger student achievement. Given that it is a framework for instruction, it is flexible enough to accommodate most of the instructional approaches that schools are pursuing, such as co-teaching classrooms, STEM and STEAM, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Response to Intervention (RTI), and more. It allows you to address the needs of all students in one fully differentiated classroom environment, including students with disabilities, English language learners, gifted learners, and those who struggle with learning content. This chapter will address a number of the various ways that the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom can meet the needs of your classroom, school, or district. It’s important to remember that the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom is not a strategy that you use some of the time; it’s an umbrella, of sorts, that pulls together all of the programs, resources, and approaches you wish to incorporate into your classroom.
