ABSTRACT

This chapter offers Carlos C. Hopkins's encouragement and wisdom about the path to being a reporter, a broadcaster, an editor or a media professional. Hopkins did not know the true power of being a journalist until he became one. He read about the greats who investigated the Watergate scandal in the 1970s and he listened to TV journalists question presidents during uncomfortable White House news conferences. But it was not until Hopkins wrote an editorial while in college at Prairie View A&M University about the deteriorating conditions of its roads that he felt the power. Managing a group of journalists is a great responsibility. In Hopkins's case, a group of producers and reporters. He have spent years as a producer writing, showcasing and delivering news through scripts and video. It was his dream job. Walking into the newsroom every day, Hopkins looks forward to learning something new.
