ABSTRACT

Steve Myers is editor of The Lens, a nonprofit, in-depth newsroom in New Orleans. He is worked for The Lens in some capacity since 2012, guiding reporters as they delve into stories about government accountability, charter schools and Louisiana's eroding coast. He supervised and edited The Lens-ProPublica collaboration "Losing Ground", an interactive examination of coastal loss that won eight national awards and was a finalist for several others. Before moving to New Orleans in 2012, Myers was managing editor of Poynter Online, where he wrote about emerging media practices such as citizen journalism, nonprofit news sites, real-time reporting via social media, data-oriented news apps, iPhoneography and the fact-checking movement. He is spoken at South by Southwest Interactive twice, once about fact-checking and once with the man who live-tweeted the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound. Myers is married with two children, an old house and two motorcycles that do not get out much.
