ABSTRACT

This chapter is designed to give lots of different investigations that allows us to improve and assess the children's science skills. The author tells us to give out the pictures of underpants and ask the children to sort them into groups. Return to the book and ask the children what would happen if one of the pirates got their underpants wet in the sea. Dip one of the paper pictures of underpants into water. Look distressed and seek the children's advice as the pirates spend large amounts of time on the water and their favourite underpants could get wet and fall apart like this. At the end of the session, have a big discussion about all the different ways the underpants were sorted and all the different features that were observed or tested. Take time to talk to the children and listen to the way they describe and discuss the footprints.
