ABSTRACT
The Court reasoned that broadcasters, who use the public airwaves, have an obligation to provide a balanced account of each issue, and that the FCC, therefore, has the right to compel stations to air messages from certain speakers. In other areas of the law, the courts have generally ruled that animals, as another form of non-human actor, lack the standing necessary to claim constitutional rights. In short, virtual spaces will include more and more non-human speakers that insert themselves into the discourse that occurs within the already substantially fragmented and generally intentionally formed communities online. Olivia Taters is one of the millions of artificially intelligent communicators that have come to inhabit social media and other virtual spaces, such as message boards and online customer service websites. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
