Grade explanation can actually refer to two different things. First, there’s a usage that means, in a multiple-choice question, for example, explaining why A is the right answer. In the literature, this is labeled “corrective feedback,” or “knowledge of results” (Hattie & Timperley, 2007). Second, there’s what you were probably thinking, which is why did a student receive the score she did.
