ABSTRACT

I discuss how knowing, doing, and thinking are incorporated into emerging science standards around the world, with a specific focus on the NGSS in the USA. I provide a short review of what the NGSS are, their foundation, and how knowing, doing, and thinking are tightly integrated within the standards. For the purposes of this book, I focus on what the NGSS call “crosscutting concepts.” We’ll see how these crosscutting concepts align with the science thinking patterns we identified from the research literature in Chapter 1.
