ABSTRACT

How can you weave science thinking into your curriculum? I describe the two basic theories for curriculum development and suggest a middle ground between the two. I then show you where and how you should stick science thinking into activities during this hybrid curriculum development process. As an example, I go through the entire process of building curriculum for magnetic fields in middle school physical science. I use the lessons from the rest of the book, specifically discussing where “Thinking Tasks” can be placed and how to slowly build science thinking ability in new contexts. Finally, I show you how to incorporate experiments into summative assessments.
