ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 aims to present the most influential theories of ADHD, which attempt the integration of research findings in comprehensive models in order to conceptualize the disorder. Four theoretical models have been chosen for this purpose: the Executive Dysfunction theory, the Delay Aversion theory and the Dual Pathway model, the Cognitive-Energetic model, and the Dynamic Developmental theory. These four models enable the clinician associate ADHD behaviors with their potential causes and design personalized interventions based on solid knowledge of both theoretical and research evidence.
