ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 focuses on each of the 13 major comorbid disorders with ADHD. It reviews a number of issues regarding the concept of comorbidity in developmental psychopathology. Specific attention has been given to the nature of the relationship between ADHD and each one of the comorbid disorders described. Epidemiological data on comorbidity are reviewed, the basic characteristics of each disorder according to DSM-5 are presented, and understanding of the reasons of this comorbidity is attempted. We aim to capture the complex and heterogeneous nature of ADHD, and to elucidate epigenetic environmental factors and common neurological features that can lead to comorbidities.
