ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by enumerating the reasons the reader to incorporate LGBTQ positivity into everyday practice. Next, the needs of intellectually disabled people around sexuality and gender identity are identified, including both the concrete (e.g. specialized medical care, group support) and the abstract (e.g. privacy, recognition). The chapter concludes with questions for self-reflection around LGBTQ issues, and with a case study on a transgender resident of a group home.
