ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 focuses on the many aspects of effective leadership and its importance in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive school counseling program and fostering school administrator–school counselor alliances critical to the success of the school counseling program. The qualities and characteristics of an effective leader are examined along with leadership styles found to be most effective in the practice of school counseling. The role of family and community involvement in promoting student learning and systemic change is discussed. The role of technology is also reviewed as it relates to student learning and professional advocacy.
