ABSTRACT

In this chapter we introduce what this volume is about by providing a description of the five major chapters. We revisit fundamental concepts such as language, culture, interculture and interculturality, communication and intercultural communication. In addition, we propose a framework, namely the Inter-Culturality Framework (ICF) for understanding intercultural communication research, particularly intercultural communication through the mediation of interpreters. The ICF comprises intercultural discourse and intercultural agency. The former consists of intercultural frames and intercultural models, and the latter consists of intercultural schemas and intercultural strategies.
