ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a review of many aspects relating to honor and including information relating to the history and prevalence of honor killings. It discusses the women's family as a primary source of their knowledge and expectations relating to honor and how the concept of honor relates to their culture and traditions. Education was an integral theme linked to honor and one of the few practical ways to eradicate honor killings. The Muslim religion is at its core a peaceful religion, yet it has been associated with terror and violence due to the acts of relatively few people who have misrepresented their religion by doing hateful acts in the name of it. Several participants shared the importance of having self-respect and self-worth, and of prioritizing and respecting their families through their actions and behaviors.
