It also discusses the main topics in terms of Journey metaphors by members of the three participant groups: patients, carers, and professionals. The chapter presents a detailed qualitative analysis of the use of Journey metaphors to talk about two specific topics: the experience of illness including the end of life, and treatment options. It shows how Journey metaphors can be used in a variety of empowering and disempowering ways, and expresses both positive and negative views and emotions. The chapter classifies movement-related metaphors under four semantic groupings: movement, location, direction, and journey. It presents the overall frequencies of Journey metaphors in the different sections of the corpus, and considers the frequencies of specific Journey metaphors across genres and groups.
