ABSTRACT

The concepts and terminology used in ecology are important aspects of the Arena framework because it is conceptualized in terms of interacting educational ecosystems. This Arena is cantered on a university teacher's course ecosystem. Theories focused on course ecosystems are likely to be inappropriate for university-wide ecosystem communities and vice versa. The teacher and her class at the very centre of the Arena have the label culture embedded in their ecosystem. A piece of software fits within educational ecosystems is often a process of coevolution. Members of most of Davis University's academic and administrative ecosystems were using the same Moodle learning management system (LMS) software as part of the nonliving matter in their university ecosystems. The ecosystem community that sustains Moodle software is thus global and operates largely in the Cloud, which means that the nonliving matter in the international ecosystem is made up mostly of software and the computers on which the software runs.
