ABSTRACT

Shapes are considered in relation to the word meaning and adoption (or not) of the other's perspective, rather than consideration of the transfer of knowledge. Some elements are more apparent in some conversations than in others, and a combination of shapes can also take place within one conversation. Xairo and Amy's discussion of the word privado gives us a largely parallel shape, which converges from time to time. In the case of Xairo and Amy, the parallel shape is more of an example of sharing of experiences but each remains firmly in their own space, while recognising interest in their partner's positions. In One-Sided Shape conversation about friendship, the meaning appears to be constructed largely by Hannah, with some small contributions from Elisa either adding a small item or two or simply agreeing with Hannah as to the word meaning.
