ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book aims to help pupils become more confident and informed readers, able to make conscious choices as writers by drawing on texts they read as models for their own independent writing. Much has changed in world of secondary English since Grammar Survival: A Teacher's Toolkit was first published. We have a new national curriculum and new GCSEs with their challenging content, linear structure and different grading scale. The authors significantly reworked this new edition of Grammar Survival for Secondary Teachers, bringing it up to date and making it current and relevant to secondary English teachers. Grammar Survival for Secondary Teachers aims to support subject knowledge in an easy-to-use way. Each right-hand page deals with application, offering practical ideas and approaches for teaching grammar and punctuation, often in context of appropriate and authentic texts so that pupils can see grammar in action.
