ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with the analysis of text, including text annotation, before shifting focus from writing in a similar style to the analysed text, to writing about it, critically evaluating text in terms of its structure, grammar and vocabulary choices. The chapter delves into the way teachers can explore the grammar of a text, helping pupils to use linguistic terminology precisely and with confidence. Helpful question prompts are provided that teachers can use as a ‘toolkit’ when modelling and scaffolding writing about language use.
