ABSTRACT

This chapter explains that if our thoughts and ideas are to remain distinct from the torrent of information from social media, then we need to retain our ability to filter information. Journalism students at the University of Southern California became among the first in the world to use Glass for research and production. They set up their own blog of the project to record their findings. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) provides guidance on privacy laws and using drones on its website. Images recorded by drones could be subject to Data Protection Law. One of the most time-consuming and often dreary aspects of print journalism is taking notes and transcribing interviews. Most journalists have a story about the challenges and rewards of learning shorthand. Along with the proliferation of smartphones across much of Europe and the United States, has come the spread of emojis; the tiny images that were originally added to text to show emotion.
