ABSTRACT

The term 'multimedia' is now used so frequently in the context of training new journalists. In 2013 a piece of interactive, multimedia long-form journalism called Snow Fall, published by the New York Times, won a Pulitzer Prize. The BBC has followed suit with several longer online pieces including features about the Rwandan Genocide and mysterious Icelandic murders. The independent regulatory body, IPSO is still relatively new, but in the light of recent events, it focuses particularly on the issue of harassment. Agency copy is another source of news, which can pose particular problems for journalists working in text. Political reporting is one of the foundation stones of daily news journalism. Many political reporters start out in local news journalism and build their first political contacts through their local councillors. A journalist working in print or text must become adept at recording their own experiences and those of others and transforming them into words.
