ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a brief historical review of the major models of SLA and motivations behind each model, pointing to limitations of some of these models wherever possible. The models reviewed include L1 role models, constructivist models, and socially oriented models. In the latter part of the chapter, the multidimensional model and PT are briefly described. The chapter concludes with a thorough review of studies carried out using PT predictions in different languages.
