The last chapter, ‘Close reading: words and forms’, focused nearly exclusively on the words on the page. This chapter moves one step outward as it examines the relationship between the textand its time and place of publication. It summarises the significant cultural and historical factors that relate to literaryproduction and contribute to meaning.
