ABSTRACT

Welcome to Problem Solving in Primary Mathematics: Learning to Investigate! This text represents for us, the authors, a lifelong relationship with learning, teaching, designing and researching mathematics. When we first started working together at a London higher education institution that provided Primary teacher education courses, we realized that we shared similar approaches to working with student teachers but methods that came from different perspectives. Debbie designed experiential, socially constructed, challenging workshops for student teachers that involved multiple self-made resources and activities; Chris designed similarly engaging sessions but ones that challenged students to consider the conceptual foci for learning. We often worked together with groups and cohorts and have recently reflected that those teaching years were the best we can remember.
