Visual metaphors According to Pablo Picasso, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” In addition to its smooth eloquence, this is a brilliant metaphor that lends poetry to Picasso’s creative spirit. But metaphors are more than just the lovely prose in poetry and music. In fact, most of us think and speak in metaphors every day. Metaphors help us overcome the boundaries of language. They allow us to understand ourselves and our world in context. Metaphors express the unfamiliar in terms of the familiar. They provide clarity and lend conceptual depth to our ideas.
