ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we aim to bring together some of the methods of analysis we have described in this book to explore how corpus data can be used in research projects you may become engaged in. To achieve this, we look at three different case studies to demonstrate a possible research approach in the areas of ELT (EFL/ESL), Literature and English Language/Linguistics. Each study examines grammar using one of the techniques we have outlined: the first frequency, the second collocations and colligation, and the third colligation and semantic prosody. As we do so, we will attempt to demonstrate how corpus data may be analysed and interpreted.
