ABSTRACT
In the first two chapters, we examined the reasons why we may wish to make use of corpora to analyse grammar and our view of grammar. In this chapter, we will explore the different types of corpora we will make use of in this book. This will include a description of each corpus and a discussion of the advantages of each. We will also show how we can use these corpora to analyse grammar, which will then be demonstrated with exercises to allow you to conduct a basic analysis. Following this, we will explore two pieces of free software which can be used to construct and search your own corpora. Each type of analysis introduced in this chapter will be expanded upon in subsequent chapters.
