ABSTRACT

What all of these have in common is that the reporter is supposed to be telling us what is happening at the location the reporter is actually in. Or at least near to it.

What often happens is that reporters are placed in front of empty buildings at 10 pm, in the dark to tell the ‘latest from the meeting’ when the meeting actually ended at 5 pm. Another situation awkward for the reporter is when he’s just arrived somewhere and having been there for ten minutes is asked by the presenter ‘what’s been the mood like there today?’ These are situations which provide plenty of fun for all those comedy programmes which parody the way news is reported.
