ABSTRACT

From the perspective of graphocentrism, the history of Chinese literature and education included a process of discipline and the institutionalisation of writing, both of which aimed to cultivate the writing subject. Chinese graphocentrism can be found in the visual dependency and visual sensibility of Chinese script. The Dao in the graphocentric context is very similar to logos in the context of logocentrism. The paradox of language in Chinese philosophy is that the Dao as language cannot fully convey the meaning of the Dao as infinite truth. Logo-phonocentrism is due to people's powerful desire to believe that language can signify all non-linguistic entities, objects, intentions, or ideas. The relation between 'zi', 'ming', and 'wen' implies a sophisticated and subtle connection between spoken words and written words, as well as the similarity between graphocentrism and logocentrism.
