ABSTRACT

Basically, composition is the pleasing arrangement of light and dark forms, values, and colors. Most artists create images of things they can see; they pick and choose from visual experiences – places and things they’ve encountered – and capture those inspirations on paper or canvas. Designers, on the other hand, must express and recreate images from their imagination; things that don’t exist. This is a much more difficult task, requiring the designer to understand and predict the effects of visual phenomena – sunlight, reflected light, shade, shadow, and perspective and challenging the designer to use this knowledge to manipulate these elements into a convincing image.
