ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of the key concepts covered in this book. In addition, review of selected case studies on recent gridshells offered possible solutions to specific issues concerned with construction process, connections, and structural behavior. One primary focus was on finding techniques to develop longer span gridshells that would be able to accommodate varied uses. The students initiated the work by testing the material and its structural properties and by working with the material to see how it could be fabricated and connected. Overall, within the limits of this research, the chapter concludes that gridshells are promising structural types that enable long spans with a minimum use of material. The research surveyed various issues and factors that must be investigated for such an end goal to be ultimately achieved, and helps to target specific areas for future research.
