ABSTRACT

Nouns provide labels for all things and names for all people and places. Nouns are the very essence of communication and interaction. Nouns identify and classify living things, such as plants, animals, species, and organisms, and they name solid and inorganic things like rocks, minerals, water, and oxygen. Nouns are divided into the broad categories of common nouns and proper nouns. Common nouns are further divided into categories—Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 (a and b)—whereby each category reflects how the nouns are conceptualized. These noun types replace the traditional categories of so-called count nouns and non-count (or mass) nouns.
