ABSTRACT

This chapter explains quick notes on the most recognized film genres such as comedy, drama, dramedy, action, adventure, biography, crime and western. The screenwriter when choosing to use the drama genre, is committing to exploring the subject in an emotionally realistic and serious way. Drama investigates human frailties, disappointments, hopes and dreams and even the tragedies of life. One of the most important elements for the screenwriter to consider when constructing a narrative in the drama genre is the building of the protagonist. dramedy is a combination of drama and comedy with more emphasis on the drama. There is also the 'comedy-drama', which has more emphasis on the comedy. The action genre demands sequences featuring the protagonist in physical interplay-usually between good and bad forces. The adventure genre is built around a journey, a search or a quest for something or someone; at the outset of the narrative this goal seems unattainable.
