ABSTRACT

This chapter presents many case studies that look at relationship between children and outside world. Loris Malaguzzi saw each child as being essentially competent: this competence includes the abilities to communicate and form relationships. These are essential features of being human. The adults working in any setting are also unique individuals, each with a history and relationships with others, some intense and deeply personal, others less so. Young children are fascinating to watch and listen to as they begin to try to share their ideas and feelings with others. Pay close attention to what they say and do try to keep in mind the idea of creative and questioning learners. The notion of children inventing rules, looking for patterns, trying things out, refining their work and using whatever is at hand will help you recognise and respond to their attempts with more respect.
