ABSTRACT

The English Language Arts Common Core Standards for History/Social Studies enable teachers to build a curriculum that is thoughtful, integrative and inquiry based. The Common Core actually encourages educators to use more than a textbook! Think of the creativity that not only the students but teachers too can begin using in the classroom! The Common Core gives students the knowledge and tools to cite and analyze a variety of sources and gives teachers the opportunity to teach using a variety of means to help their student's master academic content. In Standards 1-10 for History/Social Studies, content still gets to be the star of the show, but now they have much better backup dancers. For some, the jiggle may begin with a small sway, but as long as students are moving, that's success. The first thing we'll do is find a way to add or adapt what we're already doing to make it even better.
