ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the study of topicalization in Asian Englishes. It summarizes the findings from the study and also provides an outlook and opportunities for follow-up studies. Additionally, limitations of the present study are discussed. Limitations occurred in particular with regard to the study of the contact languages, since only corpus-based comparisons of topicalization frequencies in the contact languages would be ideal. In addition, it is noted that topicalization is a feature influenced by a range of factors. For this reason, the conclusion emphasizes the necessity of analysing linguistic features in varieties of English from various theoretical and empirical perspectives.
