ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 focuses on France insoumise (Unsubmissive France), founded in 2016 by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a political leader with a long cursus honorum in the parties of the French left. LFI bursts onto the scene with a very strong leaderistic charge, breaking with the tradition of Marxist parties. LFI sets in motion a process of political renewal centered around the organization of political communication. In the presidential elections of 2017, Mélenchon comes very close to entering the runoff election with a political proposal for a “révolution citoyenne” (citizen revolution). Paradoxically, after these positive results, France insoumise experiences deep internal conflicts and moves into a rather complex political phase.
