ABSTRACT

Talking Partners was originally conceived in Bradford as a response to increasing numbers of children with English as an additional language. The Bradford Local Education Authority advisors from the Bradford Language and Literacy and Ethnic Minority Support team at the time designed and created the implementation which was rolled out with great success across Bradford and surrounding areas. As a result, it became well known and adopted across England and beyond. Children are selected based on an initial assessment, and the programme focuses on those who have English as an additional language but have had some exposure to English rather than those completely new to it. The intervention collects data on its implementation and these are collated into reports available on their website. This is helpful in enabling practitioners to see whether it would be effective for their setting and meet their needs in an evidence informed manner.
