ABSTRACT

Language aberration relates to distortion of the sense of self and other that is a consequence of pathology of attachment, the encoding of such distortion in the language of primordial consciousness, and the subsequent use of the language of primordial consciousness in an interpersonal/social setting where it is incongruent or discordant with implicit social expectations. It is not synonymous with psychopathology which is a matter of judgment made by a doctor or therapist when a person seeks help, or by a representative of a society that concludes language and behavior violates social norms. Conditions necessary for the infant to make a secure attachment and develop an accurate sense of self and world are described. Attachment and the language of primordial consciousness emerge beginning in the last trimester of intrauterine life. Patterns of attachment, normal and disturbed, discovered by Bowlby and associates Ainsworth and Main, as well as neuroscience findings about language acquisition are described. Speculations are presented about links between these early disturbances and adult language aberration but corroboration through longitudinal studies is lacking. Examples are presented comparing and contrasting the language of primordial consciousness as it is manifest in the aberrant language of President Donald Trump and the creative language of Bob Dylan.
