ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows how accent attitudes are developed in relation to both teachers’ and students’ identity construction and negotiation, and proposes the Teaching of Pronunciation for Intercultural Communication approach regarding pronunciation teaching in English language teaching (ELT) from the Global Englishes (GE) paradigm. It explores the possibility of linking the theory of GE to the practice of ELT. To provide the implications of ELT and pronunciation instruction from the GE paradigm, the book investigates the English pronunciation that the participants would like to acquire. Despite the socio-linguistic landscape in which English has become a global language and opportunities to use it with people of various lingua-cultures in different contexts have increased, studies on the impact of this phenomenon in the chosen setting remain scant.
