ABSTRACT

The chapter first presents a summary of the major findings of the study and conclusions arrived at as the result of the analyses and discussions in the light of Spolsky’s language management theory. The central Chinese language policies that Hanban proposed and hoped to realise through the Confucius Institute initiative were mostly realised as observed in the teaching and learning practices in the classrooms of Confucius Institute. This was the result of a complex process involving all the partners and agents who interacted with one another at all three levels as studied. There is much room for improvement with regards to the working of Confucius Institute, whose long-term sustainable development remains a major cause for concern. The chapter also points to areas where further studies on Confucius Institute are needed in the light of language management theory, after reflecting on limitations of the current study. The chapter ends with a few thoughts on future development of Confucius Institute.
