ABSTRACT
Businesses such as Cisco, IBM, and IDEO seek to hire graduates who possess the "21st Century Skills" of collaboration, teamwork, creativity, imagination, critical thinking, and problem solving in addition to disciplinary expertise acquired through focused study. Incorporating 21st century connections to career preparation, entrepreneurial opportunities, and to the intersections between the liberal arts and disciplinary practice equips students with transferable competencies that help to facilitate their success after graduation. Much of entrepreneurship involves solving problems, so providing students with opportunities to engage in problem-based learning helps them to sharpen the skills necessary to meet workplace challenges. Whenever teachers link knowledge, information, and theory to practical examples and applications, their students simply learn more effectively. A syllabus is a utilitarian document, serving as both a roadmap of teachers' course and an ongoing resource for their students. Teachers' syllabus may change over the duration of the course as their instruction evolves in response to students' needs or other factors.
