ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the methodology used in the study. It outlines the process and the various ways of data collection used and the method of data analysis. The chapter explains about education in East Jerusalem, and it is a product of many years of working in the field. Sabar Ben-Yehoshua asserts that the various methodologies used in qualitative research allow an in-depth understanding of educational phenomena. However, she also says the researchers must change the specific design of their study to its purpose, so the resulting data will appropriately answer the research questions. The qualitative research method was used to analyze the education system in its social-political context and to understand from the participants the social-educational reality in the schools. By using semistructured interviews, the participants could express their opinions and talk about their experiences in their own words. Analyzing the data was conducted using the grounded theory approach.
