ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the framework that has now been used by many hundreds of academics when planning their research. It has been investigated by scholars from scientific, social science, arts and humanities backgrounds. The framework itself is introduced and there are several initial examples of using it in practice. Difficult questions raised by students doing research are grouped under each of the five approaches and some initial suggestions for answers are made.
