ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at a functional approach to managing your research. It reviews the key milestones involved in managing research as a project: opportunities during the induction process, records that need to be kept and the submission of reports. There is an introduction to some time and project management techniques. It concludes with important information about keeping handbooks, the codes of conduct that apply and the rules and regulations that need to be followed.

Ethical issues are discussed in the light of the research project and the relationship with the academic. Ethical issues arise within each approach, but the institution is responsible for ensuring that there is a formula for addressing them, and that is the aspect of ethics that is addressed here.
